Jeremy makes such a good model because she's completely un-interested in flattery; she'd rather have an ugly-looking photograph of herself than a bland one. This photo was taken when I was trying to imitate the white background and harsh lighting used by David Bailey in his 60's portraits. Clean white backgrounds are usually very difficult to produce. Unless you have a studio where you can light a white backdrop separately from the subject, you'll tend to get shadows of some kind in the background, making the picture look muddy. This picture was taken in my dining room using just the light from the window, and by sheer good luck the background came up cleanly.
We used a mirror behind the camera so that Jeremy could see exactly what expression she was producing (it's remarkable how difficult it is to judge what your face is doing unless you can actually see it). I think she looks like the junior wing of the Krays.
A mutual friend of ours uses this photo as the face of his online persona. He calls her "Perdita."
