Attack of the Greeblies
Victoria & Albert Museum, London, 1999
Heading home through London one dull October, I took
refuge in the V&A, only to find this hanging in the lobby.
Apparently it was a leftover from from an exhibition of inflatable
art, but it reminded me strongly of the monsters from Moebius
and Jodorowsky's Incal saga.
I saw several people trying to photograph this with
little compact cameras, the flashes spitting ineffectually in
the vaulted gloom. If you've got a little compact and the light
is poor, the only way to get a photograph of anything more than
about ten feet away is to switch the flash off, lean against something
for stability, hold your breath and hope the camera will give
you a long enough shutter speed to record the image.
